Food Pyramid

Grains/cereals should
be near the top.
Grains, Grains, Grains... along the bottom of almost all food pyramids is grains and cereals. Why? Unless prepared very carefully, grains and cereals play a significant role in obesity. They are, after all, converted to glucose in the body, often very quickly, mucking up the body's production of insulin.
Fresh fruits and vegetables should always be the bottom half of the pyramid, along with water, with grains, cereals, milk and dairy, sugar, at the very top, to be consumed in very small quantities. Fish could be in the middle somewhere, with red meat above it, eaten sparingly, if at all. Pork, forget it. It may taste nice, but it should not
be consumed under any circumstances.
If you must eat grains, insist that they are prepared correctly. Soaked for up to 24 hours, then dried, and ground for flour. This starts the germination process, and gets rid of the damaging pats of the grains. It is not easy in this day and age to find products made correctly from grains. One such bread supplier is Flaveur Bakery in Te Puke, NZ.
